This workshop is designed for actors and theatre makers who are interested in researching the territory of tragedy and increasing their understanding of this particular theatre style through the body. The aim of the workshop is to move away from the psychological interpretation of the tragic text trying to come towards a more physical exploration of the principles of the style. The workshop will offer a range of exercises based on improvisation and will focus on the relationship between the main dramatic elements of tragedy – the Hero and the Chorus. The participants will be asked to memorise a monologue from a selected tragedy in advance as well as to prepare a brief political speech of their own choice which they will use as their working material during the workshop. This workshop is open to all levels.
